Blessings – Part 1

“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”

Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)

We wake up every day, and we think we need a blessing. We say, “Lord, I need a blessing today.” But did we really stop and think and realise that we’re already blessed? The Word of God says the blessings of the Lord make us rich and add no sorrow. What blessings!

Jeremiah 17:7–8 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit (NKJV)

Friends, we receive blessings daily, even before we ask, and this is a result of our hope in God. The blessing of knowing we have oxygen and we don’t have to pay for it. The blessing that we’re in a family and we’re blessed to be amongst them. They aren’t perfect, but they are our family, and they love us, and we love them. The blessing of knowing that we have a job, and we take it sometimes for granted that we don’t do it with excellence.

Yes, we’re waking up in the morning and saying, Lord, I need a blessing. But when you attempt to cross the road, and someone stops to allow you to cross, that’s a blessing. They didn’t run you over or zoom past you. The blessing! The little things that we take for granted are blessings. We have become normalised to the fact that everything we have we think we deserve. No! We do not deserve it; it’s only because of the grace of God.

So how are we going to fix this attitude? Gratitude! As you go through today and you experience the blessings of the Lord, no matter how small it is, pause and say, dear Lord, thank You for Your blessings. The sun is a blessing; the rain is a blessing; we wouldn’t take it for granted anymore.

Let us move away from taking things, people, and God for granted. And realise our blessings are right here.
